The inside of both... I never know how to do the inside!

Finale Cake for Course 2!

So after 4 weeks of class, I managed to put this cake together with the help of my instructor, Barb. Let me tell you it wasnt easy. I shouldnt tell you this but I will just to explain how muc trouble this cake has caused me! The first 3 classes were the classes where we made the flowers and the colour flow piece (which in my case was the Innukshuk for the Olympics). I felt quite proud of my flowers except the daisys which I need to practise working on and the colourflow piece is nice but I would do it a little differently next time but both of these were simple compared to when I had to start the cake.

For those of you who know me, I am a baker. I consider myself a pretty good baker having never had something come out horrible. This all changed when I made this cake. There were a couple things that I did differently as I was trying new products.

1st: I used these cake baking strips where you soak them in water and then put them on the outside of the pan and while the cake bakes, it helps the cake settle so that the top is not higher than the sides. I must admit this cake worked out wonderful in that it seemed to have a nice shape, however it was dense and heavy.. dunno why?

2nd: I used oval deep pans which Ive never used before

3rd: instead of putting icing in the middle of the cake, i decided to get fancy and put lemon gelatin in the middle.

Well... i managed to make a dam around the cake to make sure the lemon didnt run, but i think the pudding was still too hot, therefore it melted the icing which I had already iced on the cake, and started oozing down the sides. With that being said, a normal 1 hour icing job became 3 hours to fix the lemoney goooo coming out and to ice the cake semi professional.

I wish that my problems stopped there but they didnt...

I left the cake overnight to harden, and when i was on my way to class, i thought i could handle all my bags: my tool caddy, my other icings which i needed to do the basket weave etc., my cake carrier and the tupperware with the dried flowers which I needed to put on the cake in class.

Needless to say, i didnt have a good grip on things and when I put my cake on the car hood for a moment, it fell off the hood and exploded....

Luckily it was still in the carrier so it was still sanitary!
I arrived at class royally pissed off and ready to cry "why meeee!" when i ran into my instructor who said there is always a plan B.

I was skeptical being that the lemon was on the outside and the cake looked like it was in pieces, but the picture below is the end result. I dunno about you but if you had of seen this disaster, you would be quite amazed at the final piece.... I should have taken a photo in hindsight but i was too devestated to do so at the time.
The weave technique!

Latest Card: Dominique got married!

So i got a card in the mail from my good friend Dominqiue thanking me for my christmas card. She was one of the teachers at Claude Bernard when I was teaching there way back when I was in France and had no care in the world! ok im rambling..

Anyway, I visited her this past March in Wimbledon which is where she now lives with her son and bf but when I was there, there wasn't any talk of marriage so imagine the shock on my face when I receive this card and WHAM! she got married! Congrats to her!

It just so happened that last Thursday at Michaels, when I was there for my cake decorating class, I found a couple new stamps about love (b/c of this valentines day thing coming soon, not that im bitter!) and so I had the perfect idea for a new card!

Hope you like it!

Cake decorating: Course 2 Lesson 2

So today we learned how to make violets and apple blossoms. To me, they both look the same and nothing special. We will see what they look like when i put them on my final cake which will be in 2 weeks time.

Tonight I also worked on my focus point which is my edible sign... (apparently it takes 2 weeks to dry and harden!!!) Its made of colour flow icing which is basically icing sugar, water and colour flow powder and it was extremely hard to work with!!!!

What do you think?

Cleaning out my craft room (corner)

Anywho, I finished yet another card when I took a break from cleaning!

Thanks Amanda for getting me this stamp for Christmas! I love it!

New years!

I have been sooo bored lately.. or full of ideas I should say! So today I played with my new cartridges for the cricut and also finished some more cards... I dont know why I love cards soo much, I really need to keep going with my scrapbook!

The inside.. not something I usually do but I had some scraps so I took advantage!

I love this if I do say so myself!

Boxing day!

So I totally went overboard this boxing day considering I did not want to go and become tempted with evil consumerism, but I was coaxed into it by my cousin and so I spent money.

My new favourite store, Stamping Bella had a 40% off sale and so I went crazy!

Here are some examples of what Ive been able to make with my new toys!

P.S. I start course 2 of my cake decorating sessions this week so im super excited to come up with cakes soon as well! Keep tuned!
OK this one not so much in the right season but I like it and didnt send it out this year so I get to post it! Stickers were from the Sandylion Sticker warehouse in Markham - a very dangerous place to go! You will leave with tons of stickers, soo many that you may not have room for them all! (ok maybe thats just me....)
I made this card at a make n take at Michaels recently but didnt like how it turned out so I changed it.. below is my new idea!

I like this one much better!
This adorable stamp was one of many boxing day purchases. I have a better colouring job on another card but it isnt finished yet so you will just have to wait!

This card was done with the cuttlebug embossing folders and cutting templates. I quite like how it turned out!
